China opposes US 'long-arm jurisdiction' over trade with Russia

On Thursday, China expressed opposition to illegal unilateral sanctions and long-arm jurisdiction that lack a basis in international law or authorization from the United Nations Security Council, after the United States Congress approved legislation on Wednesday that could subject major buyers of Russian energy — including China, potentially — to tariffs of up to 100 percent.

"China has always conducted normal economic and trade cooperation with countries around the world on the basis of equality and mutual benefit," Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told a regular news briefing.

Guo noted that relevant cooperation is not directed at any third party, nor should it be subject to interference or coercion by any third party.
