Power safety workshops light up new semester for rural students
State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Company kicked off a targeted power safety education campaign at Xiaocun Primary School in Taozhu Town, Linhai, Zhejiang province, on Sept 2, bringing customized back-to-school safety resources to rural students as part of the national "Power Love Classroom" public welfare initiative.
The activity consisted of three well-designed modules — safety education lectures, hands-on experience with professional power equipment, and a full-scale campus electrical safety inspection — integrating professional expertise with interactive and age-friendly learning experiences.
Zhang Cheng, a seasoned frontline technician from the company's Taozhu Power Supply Station, delivered the safety lecture. Drawing on years of experience in local power grid operation and community public services in Taozhu Ancient Town, he elaborated on power generation and transmission principles, daily electricity safety guidelines, and electric shock first-aid knowledge. By combining everyday household electricity scenarios with interactive Q&A sessions, he made professional knowledge accessible and engaging, helping students develop solid and practical electricity safety awareness in a relaxed classroom atmosphere.
Following the lecture, students had close access to live-line operation gear, including insulating gloves and voltage detectors. Company staff explained the functions and standard specifications of each tool before guiding students through supervised hands-on trials. The immersive experience not only stimulated students' interest in power science and technology, but also turned the concept of "safety first" into intuitive, memorable knowledge.
Parallel to the classroom sessions, a professional technical team from State Grid Taizhou conducted a comprehensive safety overhaul of the school's electrical systems. Inspectors focused on key high-risk facilities such as classroom wiring, distribution boxes and wall sockets, recorded hidden electrical hazards, and assisted the school with on-site rectification, eliminating potential safety risks at the source.
Launched by State Grid Corporation of China in 2021, the national "Power Love Classroom" program is committed to optimizing campus learning environments and popularizing practical safety education resources for primary and secondary school students nationwide. Its wide-ranging practices include campus lighting upgrading, public safety publicity and targeted school support.
"A single safety class sows the seed of awareness, while one thorough inspection safeguards a whole semester of secure campus life," said a spokesperson for State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Company.
Moving forward, the company will continue to leverage the "Power Love Classroom" as a long-term public welfare platform to further integrate power popularization with campus education. Adhering to the model of "educate one student, influence one family, and benefit one community", it will help build a solid grassroots electrical safety barrier to protect the healthy growth of young students.
