China voices concern over rising tensions in Yemen and the Red Sea

China said on Monday that attacks on civilian facilities tied to people's livelihoods are unacceptable, expressing deep concern over rising tensions in Yemen and the Red Sea that have caused civilian casualties and damaged energy and other civilian infrastructure.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks at a regular news briefing in response to a question about reports that Yemen's Houthi movement had recently attacked four cities in southern Saudi Arabia, wounding more than 70 civilians and damaging multiple energy and civilian facilities. The Houthis said they had also come under attack, resulting in casualties.

Guo said the intensifying situation in the region serves the interests of no party, and that the sovereignty and security of all countries must be respected. Resolving disputes through political and diplomatic means, he said, is the only way out.

Guo called on all relevant parties to exercise restraint, ease tensions through communication and dialogue, and work to de-escalate the situation as soon as possible.
