China pushed back on Monday against claims from some US artificial intelligence companies that its AI development threatens the United States, warning that such rhetoric only disrupts global AI governance and serves no one's interests.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks at a regular news briefing in response to a question about comments from US AI firms that have characterized China's AI progress as a threat to the US.

Guo said the development of artificial intelligence concerns the shared well-being of all humanity, and that all parties should work together to promote AI development that is open, inclusive, beneficial and geared toward the common good.

Spreading threat narratives and engaging in confrontation and malicious competition, he said, will only disrupt the process of global AI governance and serve the interests of no one.
