13 dead, 3 missing in Jiangxi landslides

Thirteen people have been confirmed dead and three others remain missing after a series of mudslides and landslides struck Suichuan county in East China's Jiangxi province. In Mingkeng village in Gaoping township, a mudslide and landslide on Saturday left 12 dead and one missing as of Tuesday evening, according to local officials. After days of torrential rain, one person was confirmed dead and two others were reported missing after landslides struck Zuo'an township and Tanghu township in the same county. Search and rescue operations, road reinforcement and prevention of secondary disasters are underway.

Shanxi ex-governor sentenced for bribery

Jin Xiangjun, former governor of Shanxi province, was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve on Tuesday by a court in Henan province for accepting bribes of over 148 million yuan ($22.05 million). He was also deprived of political rights for life, and all his personal assets were confiscated, according to the ruling announced by the Xinyang Intermediate People's Court. The court found that Jin, from the first half of 2004 to April 2025, took advantage of his positions, including mayor of Yulin, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, vice-mayor of Tianjin, and governor of Shanxi, to seek benefits for relevant departments and individuals in various matters such as business operation, project contracting and job promotion. In exchange, he accepted bribes worth more than 148 million yuan.

Former senior official expelled from Party

Wang Xiangxi, former minister of emergency management, has been expelled from the CPC and dismissed from public office for serious violations of Party discipline and national laws, China's top anti-graft authorities said on Tuesday. The decision followed an investigation by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision into Wang, a former member of the 20th CPC Central Committee. Wang also violated organizational principles by improperly seeking benefits for others in job promotions and breached integrity rules by using his influence to benefit the business activities of specific related persons, according to the statement.
