Shanghai to hit its three-year target of generating $90b in retail sales from livestreaming
Holding the top position in China's livestreaming economy for four consecutive years, Shanghai is expected to achieve its three-year target of generating 600 billion yuan ($89.25 billion) in retail sales from the sector by this year, according to official sources.
Shanghai generated 573.36 billion yuan in retail sales related to the livestreaming business last year, up 16.1 percent year-on-year, securing the city's position as the national leader in the livestreaming economy for the fourth consecutive year in terms of market scale, the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce said.
Under a three-year action plan for the high-quality development of the livestreaming economy from 2024 to 2026, Shanghai has so far formed four livestreaming economy clusters with distinct industrial characteristics in districts of Changning, Yangpu, Songjiang, and the Hongqiao International Central Business District, along with 20 livestreaming e-commerce bases across the city.
Yangpu district's livestreaming economy reached 78 billion yuan in 2025, with 140 enterprises newly established to tap into the livestreaming industry chain. The district has formed a complete livestreaming economy ecosystem, supported by a large pool of high-quality content creators.
