China's Foreign Ministry has underlined Beijing's consistent position of encouraging parties involved to resolve economic and trade concerns "through equal dialogue and consultation" in response to the escalating tariff war between the United States and Canada.

On Tuesday, the Canadian government announced retaliatory tariffs on over 700 US goods, Xinhua news agency reported.

Canadian officials said the countermeasures match the total value of Canadian products targeted by the latest 50-percent US tariffs.

"China has consistently advocated that all parties resolve their respective economic and trade concerns through equal dialogue and consultation," Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a daily press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.
