Hu Zhifeng, dean of the School of Arts & Communication at Beijing Normal University, recently told China Daily's Dialogues with Thinkers that AI may learn to imitate conventional performances and even subtle facial expressions, but it cannot fully replicate the "sense of a living person" — the warmth, passion, lived experience and emotions that make a performance truly human. Yet, as new generations grow up with AI, will audiences still care whether the performer on screen is human or AI-generated? Perhaps the answer will ultimately depend on future audiences.
