Wey puts safety first, pledging real-car tests

Amid the fast-evolving auto industry, Great Wall Motor's Wey brand has reaffirmed its commitment to family car safety and long-term development amidst fierce market competition.

At the ongoing Chengdu Motor Show, Wey is showcasing its entire product lineup, with the spotlight on its flagship V8X and V9X SUVs. Built on the self-developed Guiyuan-S platform, which has been six years in the making, the lineup caters to a range of needs, from urban commutes to off-road adventures.

Both models feature GWM's Hi4 hybrid system with the longest range of 1,659 kilometers, suited to the challenging road conditions and diverse mobility needs of the Sichuan-Chongqing region.

The Guiyuan-S platform has undergone technological upgrades and all-weather testing. To ensure top-tier performance and safety, the V8X and V9X endured grueling conditions, including heat testing in Turpan's blistering 70-degree Celsius temperatures and simulated storms with rainfall of up to 120 millimeters per hour.

In addition, extensive cabin testing featured formaldehyde emissions checks under high temperatures. The interiors prioritize occupant health, employing infant-grade antibacterial and antiviral fabrics alongside eco-friendly coconut-shell-carbon floor mats.

Wey noted that the brand embraces AI but uses it cautiously, only for research, development, quality improvement and efficiency enhancement. For aspects like safety and durability, it relies on 100 percent real car physical testing within a rigorous self-testing system.

The V8X and V9X incorporate a native AI-driven cockpit and driving assistant for seamless parking, extreme weather safety, and complex curves. The AI acts as a personal butler, remembering preferences and adjusting settings like air conditioning, seats and navigation.
