China, Jordan urge dialogue and lasting Gaza ceasefire
China calls for lasting Gaza ceasefire
China called on all parties to maintain communication and dialogue and work toward a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in Beijing on Sunday while meeting with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.
Safadi is accompanying King Abdullah II of Jordan on his seven-day state visit to China.
Noting that the situation in the Middle East remains complex and grave, Wang said Jordan is an important country in the region and has a unique influence on regional developments.
"The Palestinian question is at the heart of the Middle East issue and must not be marginalized or instrumentalized," he said.
Wang called on all parties to remain engaged in communication and dialogue, promote a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and help ease the humanitarian situation there.
China will continue to support Jordan in playing a positive role in addressing the Palestinian issue and other regional matters, he added.
Noting that China is a sincere partner that Jordan can trust and rely on, Wang said China would remain on the right side of history, stand with Arab countries in upholding justice, and continue working for the early restoration of peace and stability in the Middle East.
Safadi said Jordan attaches great importance to its relations with China and remains firmly committed to the one-China principle.
Jordan highly appreciates the positive and responsible role China has played in addressing issues concerning the Middle East, particularly its firm support for the two-state solution to the Palestinian question, he said.
Safadi added that Jordan is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China and jointly promote lasting peace and stability in the region.
