China congratulates Alamgir on election as Bangladeshi president

China on Friday congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as president of Bangladesh, and expressed its readiness to work with the Bangladeshi government to further advance bilateral relations.

"China congratulates Mr Alamgir on his election as president of Bangladesh," Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian told a regular news briefing.

China attaches great importance to its relations with Bangladesh and stands ready to work with the Bangladeshi government to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and expand exchanges and cooperation across various fields, Lin said.

China will also work with Bangladesh to make continued progress in building a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era, he added.

Alamgir, the candidate of Bangladesh's ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party, was elected the country's 23rd president in a parliamentary vote on Thursday.
