China praises Malaysian PM's remarks on one-China principle
A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman has praised Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's endorsement of the one-China principle.
In a video interview with Al Jazeera, the Malaysian leader said, "I see Taiwan as part of China, period ... Yes, express your view, but it must be in the context. It is one China. It is accepted by all."
In response to a question on China's reserving the right to use force if peaceful reunification doesn't work, Anwar drew an analogy with his own country, saying that if any part of Malaysia sought to break away, it would be his responsibility to preserve the country's territorial integrity.
At a regular news conference in Beijing on Wednesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said that upholding the one-China principle serves the will of the Chinese people and is a matter of justice, and that the international community's fundamental consensus on upholding the principle remains unshakable.
Lin insisted that there is only one China in the world, and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory.
"China must be reunified, and it will inevitably be reunified; this is an unalterable historical trend," he said.
