China calls for joint efforts to maintain peace, stability on Korean Peninsula
China on Monday called for joint efforts from all parties to uphold peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and advance the political settlement of the Korean Peninsula issue, in response to United States President Donald Trump's instruction to the Pentagon to substantially scale down joint military exercises with the Republic of Korea.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian made the remarks at a regular news briefing when asked if China would support renewed dialogue between the US and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Trump said on Sunday that he instructed the Pentagon to substantially reduce joint military exercises with the ROK, citing high costs and highlighting his good relationship with DPRK leader Kim Jong-un.
Lin said, "Maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and advancing the political settlement of the Korean Peninsula issue serves the common interests of all parties."
