China will host the third APEC Senior Officials' Meeting in Dalian, Liaoning province, starting Monday, a Foreign Ministry spokesman has said.

The gathering will be the largest of this year's APEC senior officials' meetings in terms of both attendance and number of events, Guo Jiakun said on Friday.

The event will seek to deliver more cooperation outcomes across various fields and mechanisms under the APEC framework and lay the groundwork for the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in November, he added.

According to Guo, nearly 130 meetings and events will be held between Monday and Aug 28, including the Senior Officials' Plenary Meeting as well as committee and working group meetings, workshops and other related activities.

The meetings will cover a wide range of fields, including trade, transportation, food, customs, science and technology, energy, health, disaster reduction and anti-corruption.

More than 2,300 representatives from APEC member economies, the APEC Secretariat, the APEC Business Advisory Council and the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council are expected to attend.

"The host city Dalian serves as a window to learn about China's opening-up in Northeast China," Guo said.

"It boasts a robust industrial foundation, sound business environment, geographical advantages, beautiful scenery and livable environment.

"We welcome friends from the media to actively report on the third Senior Officials' Meeting and related meetings, and continue following and supporting the APEC 'China Year'."
