For 10 years, 71-year-old Feng Yuanyong has kept watch over a tiny private zoo in Kaili, Guizhou province, until a surge of online attention recently turned the small hillside park into a social media sensation.
At the height of its popularity, more than 10,000 visitors packed into the zoo in a single day, Feng said. "There wasn't even enough room to stand."
The crowds have since eased, but visitor numbers remain steady, turning the once-struggling zoo, where even animal feed was once hard to afford, into a new destination for tourists visiting Kaili.
