FM: Foreigners will not receive special treatment from law enforcement

Chinese authorities handle illegal acts and criminal offenses in accordance with the law, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Tuesday.

Guo made the remarks in response to questions about the reported detention of two Japanese nationals in Dalian, Liaoning province, on suspicion of smuggling products subject to import and export controls, as well as reports that other senior executives of Japanese companies had been detained in similar cases.

"We have responded to relevant questions before," Guo said. "Competent Chinese authorities handle illegal acts and criminal offenses in accordance with the law."
