Renovated Xiaoguan Olympic Square welcomes residents with specialty market

The fully upgraded Xiaoguan Olympic Cultural Square in Beijing officially opened to residents on Friday, marking the launch of the sub-district's regular neighborhood market brand. The renovation has resulted in increased public space, optimized age-friendly facilities and integrated dual-Olympic cultural heritage into daily community life.

The square was buzzing with life as visitors thronged the 60 stalls featuring specialty snacks and original handmade crafts from across China. They tasted Qiqihar focaccia, Yunnan spicy snacks and Guizhou icy syrup. Creative pendants made from real bread and handmade jewelry found many takers.

Amid the scorching summer heat, the sub-district had thoughtfully provided folding fans and misting fans to help residents cool down. The brand-new children's playground and fitness area created a pleasant community atmosphere. Kids played and laughed freely, while neighbors chatted casually in what was clearly a welcoming neighborhood.

The community mascot, Guanyangyang, and a clown toured the venue and interacted with visitors. An immersive flash mob performance, featuring melodic string tunes and powerful drum rhythms, followed.

The senior hip-hop team from Huixinli residential community, local young singers and international guests performing African drums took the stage in turn, attracting more than 200 residents who stopped by to watch and cheer.

As colorful confetti fluttered in the air amid applause, the vibrant community market officially opened to the public.

As the sub-district's flagship regular market project, it combines featured bazaar experiences with dual-Olympic culture. Sub-district authorities said five distinctive themed events based on the 24 solar terms will be launched.

Integrating daily shopping, cultural and creative experiences and leisure activities, the market aims to fully meet local residents' needs for consumption, outdoor recreation and neighborhood social interaction.
