China opposes reported US restrictions on Chinese technology products
China firmly opposes the United States overstretching the concept of national security and abusing state power to go after Chinese businesses, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Wednesday.
Lin made the remarks after reports emerged that the US was reportedly drafting a ban on imports of new Chinese optical transceivers and was also preparing tariffs and price floors on Chinese polysilicon and related products.
"Protectionism will not make the US more competitive," Lin said.
He said the US move severely disrupts normal economic and trade exchanges between Chinese and US businesses and is not in the interests of US businesses and consumers or anyone else, for that matter.
China will continue to firmly protect the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of Chinese companies, Lin added.
