A Gravity 1 carrier rocket carrying nine satellites blasts off at 10:54 am on Wednesday from waters off the coast of Shanghai. The mission marked the first launch by a private Chinese rocket from the East China Sea and the closest space launch to Shanghai to date, successfully placing nine satellites into their designated orbits. Gravity 1 has the largest payload fairing — the nose cone that houses satellites or other payloads — among China's private carrier rockets. See story, page 5 XINHUA
