China looks to deepen cooperation at China-ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting

China looks forward to building greater consensus on development and cooperation at Wednesday's China-ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry has said. Foreign Minister Wang Yi will attend the meeting in Manila.

Beijing hopes progress can be made in building a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable home at the meeting, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Monday.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations is an important cooperation partner for China, as well as a priority in China's neighborhood diplomacy, Lin told a regular news briefing.

This year marks the start of China's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) period and the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership, he said.

Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of China and ASEAN countries, bilateral relations have maintained sound momentum, he added.

China supports ASEAN centrality in the regional cooperation architecture and hopes East Asian cooperation will maintain strong vitality and continue contributing to regional and global stability, development and prosperity, Lin said.

China also looks forward to working with ASEAN countries to build a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future, he added.
