Japan supported the 'ruling' until it applied to Okinotorishima?

Japan endorsed the so-called South China Sea arbitration award. But what if the same ruling undermines Japan's own claims?
The tribunal concluded that none of the features in the Nansha Islands qualifies as a fully entitled island. By that same logic, Japan's claim to Okinotorishima, a feature consisting of just two tiny natural outcrops, could also be called into question.
If China is expected to accept the ruling, shouldn't its supporters be prepared to apply the same standard to themselves?
