Metog Vlog | China's Hidden Frontier

In Metog, a county in Xizang, a one-hour drive can take you from Arctic-like landscapes to tropical rainforests. It is home to the world's deepest canyon and lies on China's frontier with India.

Before 2013, Metog was the last county in China without highway access. Roads into the county were often cut off by snow for months each year.

Today, roads wind through the mountains, new villages stand along the border, and tea grows where few once imagined it could.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the peaceful liberation of Xizang. Metog's development tells a larger story: the frontier is a place where people live, work, and thrive.
