OPEC+ increases production quotas

Seven OPEC+ members decided on Sunday to again raise oil production quotas as Gulf countries reel from the Middle East war. Ministers from key OPEC+ countries Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria and Oman met virtually on Sunday and "decided to implement a production adjustment of 188 thousand barrels per day", a statement said, adding that "this adjustment will be implemented in August 2026". Between the first quarter and May, the combined production by Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait — three of the seven countries raising their quotas — fell by some 6 million barrels per day, OPEC data showed.

Top leader oversees weapons system test

Kim Jong-un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, oversaw on Friday a performance test of the weapons systems of destroyer Kang Kon, the Korean Central News Agency reported on Sunday. The destroyer conducted on Friday "a test-fire of strategic cruise missile and a test of major weapons systems such as naval artillery, automatic machine guns and electronic warfare means", the report said. Kim said it is necessary for the country "to further speed up the projects to maintain and steadily expand the reliable war deterrent and capability to fight a war".

Ebola deaths near 500 as cases rise

The Democratic Republic of Congo has reported 1,528 confirmed Ebola cases, including 492 deaths, as the country's latest outbreak continues to expand. The DR Congo's public health authorities said in a report on Saturday that a total of 239 patients have recovered, while 628 confirmed patients are in isolation or hospitalized. Authorities have also identified 185 suspected cases. The report said weekly confirmed cases have continued to rise, with epidemiological weeks 25 and 26 recording the highest levels, each exceeding 300 cases, indicating continued community transmission.
