Back-to-back 7.2 and 7.5 tremors leave over 2,900 dead, millions displaced in Venezuela's worst quake in a century

Tens of thousands of people were still reported missing, in a South American country already mired in economic crisis and political limbo after the US forcibly seized then-president Nicolas Maduro in January.

Local hospitals are entirely overwhelmed, forcing international rescue teams and the UN to quickly scale up operations. Emergency workers are hampered by widespread mobile network and internet outages, as well as chaotic, debris-clogged roads, according to the UN.
