BEIJING -- Chinese airlines will lower fuel surcharges for mainland routes on tickets sold from July 5, according to announcements released by carriers including Air China on Friday.

Under the revised standard, passengers will pay a fuel surcharge of 50 yuan (about $7.35) per flight segment on routes of up to 800 km, and 100 yuan for longer routes.

Infants will remain exempt from this surcharge, while children, and disabled servicemen and police officers will get a 50-percent discount.

Compared with the current rates, the surcharge will be reduced by 30 yuan for routes of up to 800 km and by 50 yuan for longer routes.
