Electricity trading volume up in Jan-May
China's total electricity trading volume surpassed 3 trillion kWh in the first five months of 2026, up 24.8 percent year-on-year, the National Energy Administration said. During the period, electricity trading volume within provincial borders rose 28.5 percent from a year earlier, while inter-provincial and interregional power transactions increased 12.2 percent, the data showed.
Yuan strengthens against greenback
The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, strengthened 66 pips to 6.8109 against the US dollar on Tuesday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System. In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day. The central parity rate of the yuan against the US dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.
