No final communique issued at G7 summit

The G7 summit, chaired by France, concluded on Wednesday in Evian-les-Bains without issuing a final communique. This marks the second consecutive year, following the G7 summit under Canadian chairmanship in 2025, that the group of seven Western powers has failed to adopt a final communique. Organizers had already abandoned the idea of a final communique during the preparatory phase, opting instead to publish thematic documents to avoid highlighting the differences between the US and its allies, Japanese news agency Kyodo reported, citing diplomatic sources.

Gemini co-lead to join IPO-bound OpenAI

Noam Shazeer, a vice-president of engineering at Google and co-lead of its Gemini artificial intelligence models, said on Wednesday that he will leave the company to join IPO-bound ChatGPT maker OpenAI. Shazeer's move comes as leading AI firms compete for talent while racing to develop advanced models. The surprise departure comes less than two years after Google reportedly paid $2.7 billion to bring Shazeer back to the company along with a team of his researchers. The timing of Shazeer's departure from Google was not immediately clear. "I'm incredibly proud of the amazing team at Google and everything we've built together," Shazeer said on X, adding that he was "excited" to join OpenAI.
