China will continue to make every effort to ensure the safety of Chinese-owned vessels and crew members, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Tuesday.

Beijing has noticed that the phase-one memorandum of understanding reached between Iran and the United States includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, Lin said at a daily news conference in Beijing.

China is willing to maintain communication with relevant countries and the international community on this matter, he said.

"The Strait of Hormuz is a waterway used for international navigation, and restoring safe and free passage through the strait as soon as possible serves the interests of all parties," he added.
