Respect for diversity of civilizations emphasized
All parties should "uphold respect for the diversity of civilizations as the foundation to consolidate global consensus on mutual learning among civilizations", said a Chinese think tank report released on Wednesday in Beijing.
On the occasion of the second International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations, the China Institute of International Studies, or CIIS, released the report titled "China's Actions for Advancing Global Dialogue Among Civilizations".
"More than ever, the power of civilization must be harnessed to address the challenges of the times and promote world peace and development," the report said.
It urged various parties to "break down cultural barriers by seeking harmony without uniformity, connect hearts and minds through openness and inclusiveness, and eliminate misunderstandings through dialogue and exchanges".
China first proposed the Global Civilization Initiative, or GCI, in 2023. The report said the country "stands ready to join hands with the international community to fully implement the Global Civilization Initiative and pool civilizational strength for building a community with a shared future for humanity".
In 2024, the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly adopted by consensus a resolution proposed by China and 82 other countries, designating June 10 every year as the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations.
The CIIS report aims to further review and summarize China's experience, practices and major achievements in promoting the implementation of the GCI and facilitating global dialogue among civilizations.
The report introduces the historical background and profound implications of the GCI, and it systematically reviews China's concepts, policies and practical achievements in promoting dialogue among civilizations from five aspects.
China has been pooling broad international consensus on exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, supporting the UN in playing its role as the primary platform for dialogue among civilizations, and deepening bilateral and regional dialogue among civilizations, the report said.
Also, the country has been advancing multilateral cooperation on dialogue among civilizations, and integrating dialogue among civilizations into exchanges and cooperation across various fields. It also looks ahead to China's next steps in promoting dialogue among civilizations, according to the report.
