Vice-premier stresses high-quality basic education during Yunnan inspection
Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang emphasized the need to advance the high-quality development of basic education while inspecting Southwest China's Yunnan province from Monday to Tuesday.
During visits to local schools, Ding said that Yunnan, as a border region with various ethnic groups, should enhance the quality of education across the board. At Yunnan Normal University, he called for efforts to strengthen faculty training.
Ding also inspected preparations for the upcoming national college entrance exam, or gaokao, urging local authorities to ensure the exam is conducted smoothly.
Vice-president meets with candidate for next UN secretary-general
Vice-President Han Zheng met with Michelle Bachelet, a candidate for the post of the next United Nations secretary-general, on Wednesday in Beijing, and stressed that China is willing to work with all parties to continue firmly supporting the UN in playing its central role.
Han also stressed efforts to promote the establishment of a more just and equitable global governance system.
As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China will earnestly fulfill its responsibilities, continue to uphold a fair and impartial stance, defend the authority of the UN, and safeguard the common interests of the Global South, Han said.
Bachelet expressed her appreciation for China's long-term and steadfast commitment to promoting multilateralism and the cause of the UN, and said that she is willing to work with China to jointly strengthen the UN's role.
