Milestone reached on Zhejiang bridgework

A 174-meter continuous beam of a bridge over the Dongyang River — part of the 24.5 billion yuan ($3.62 billion) Jinhua railway hub expansion and renovation project in Zhejiang province — was put in place recently. Built by China Railway 24th Bureau Group, a China Railway Construction Corp unit, the project is using an intelligent bridge-building machine which boosts overall efficiency by 20 percent and cuts labor input by 30 percent. Scheduled for completion in late 2027, the project will significantly enhance regional transportation connectivity in the Yangtze River Delta region, CR24G said.

Measures aim to ensure coal transport

A major rail transport artery, the Datong-Qinhuangdao Railway, is bolstering measures to deliver coal to coastal regions to meet rising demand for power in the south hit by severe heat. The line carried some 680 million metric tons of cargo in 2025. Hudong Electric Locomotive Depot, which handles one-fifth of the line's capacity, has integrated advanced technologies in guaranteeing coal's stable delivery. Staffers also monitor real-time weather and track conditions along the entire route to realize intelligent management. Veteran locomotive driver Zhang Xiang said the line's stability is crucial to national energy security.
