Deportation of migrants outside bloc gets nod

European Union lawmakers and governments agreed on Monday to new rules allowing countries to send migrants ordered to leave the bloc to third countries, a move that has drawn sharp criticisms from rights groups warning it could enable abuses. The legislation, which still requires formal approval by EU governments and the European Parliament, was proposed by the European Commission last year. The commission says it would streamline procedures and give governments more tools to deport people while respecting fundamental rights.

Caretaker PM forms new four-party govt

Denmark's caretaker Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said on Monday that she has succeeded in forming a new four-party government following a 69-day coalition-building process, the longest in the country's history. Speaking after meeting King Frederik X, Frederiksen said the new cabinet will include the Social Democrats, the Socialist People's Party, the Social Liberal Party and the Moderates. She said the government's political program will be presented on Tuesday. Frederiksen described the negotiations as "long and difficult".

MEXICO

Sheinbaum accuses US agencies of meddling

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Monday that far-right sectors in the United States are coordinating with domestic groups to attack her government, escalating her rhetoric against Mexico's largest trading partner. The remarks follow a weekend rally where Sheinbaum denounced alleged interference by US government agencies and business interests. The leftist president said she does not believe the attacks are being orchestrated by her US counterpart Donald Trump.
