Brazilian FM to pay a three-day official visit

Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira will pay a three-day official visit to China starting on Sunday, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry. During the visit, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will host the fifth China-Brazil Foreign Ministerial-Level Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue with Vieira, the ministry's spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Thursday. Through the visit, China expects to further consolidate political and strategic mutual trust with Brazil, make continued progress in building a community with a shared future, Mao said. It is also hoped that through the visit, the two countries could demonstrate a sense of responsibility in promoting solidarity and cooperation among Global South countries, and contribute to world peace and stability, she said.

SOUTH KOREA

Former leader Yoon acquitted of perjury

South Korean former president Yoon Suk-yeol was acquitted of perjury in the first-instance trial for aiding the insurrection case involving former prime minister Han Ducksoo, Yonhap News Agency reported on Thursday. Yoon was indicted on charges of giving false testimony when he appeared as a witness on Nov 19 last year in the trial of Han on charges including aiding the ringleader of an insurrection and engaging in essential duties related to insurrection.

ICC to open trial of Duterte in November

The International Criminal Court said on Wednesday it has scheduled the opening of the trial against former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte for Nov 30. The ICC confirmed all three counts of "crimes against humanity" against Duterte and committed him to trial on April 23. Duterte served as president of the Philippines from 2016 to 2022. He was arrested and transferred to ICC custody in March 2025 under a warrant related to his controversial antidrug campaign. The ICC rejected an appeal seeking his release based on age and declining health in November last year.
