NASA unveils road map for moon base

The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration on Tuesday unveiled its Moon Base initiative, outlining plans for sustained human presence near the moon's South Pole under its Artemis exploration program. The project will be developed in three phases, beginning with robotic exploration through 2029, followed by the deployment of habitation, power and communications systems.

Samsung workers approve pay deal

Unionized workers at Samsung Electronics approved a bonus pay deal on Wednesday, averting an 18-day strike involving 48,000 workers. Two Samsung unions said 74 percent of eligible workers backed the agreement after a five-month dispute. The deal mainly benefits employees in Samsung's memory chip division amid the AI boom, with some workers set to receive bonuses of about $416,000. Samsung shares rose 6 percent following the agreement.

Toronto imposes Ebola isolation curbs

The Canadian government said Tuesday that travelers from Ebola-affected regions will be required to self-isolate for 21 days, while immigration authorities are suspending decisions on applications from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan and Uganda. Officials said the measures will start on Saturday and be effective through Aug 29. The WHO said the Ebola outbreak in northeastern Congo has recorded more than 900 suspected cases and over 220 deaths, and could last for months.
