Vucic awarded Friendship Medal in Beijing
"I cannot imagine a better day in my professional career, nor can I imagine a greater recognition," Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic wrote on social media on Monday after being awarded the Friendship Medal of the People's Republic of China.
The medal is the country's highest state honor presented to foreign friends.
President Xi Jinping held the awarding ceremony for Vucic at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Monday evening.
In his speech, Xi said that Vucic has long been committed to China-Serbia friendship and has vigorously promoted bilateral relations, making him an active builder and staunch supporter of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
Vucic has always given China the firmest and clearest support on issues concerning China's core interests and major concerns, winning the respect of the Chinese people, Xi said.
Vucic thanked China for awarding him the Friendship Medal, saying that he accepted it on behalf of the state and people of Serbia.
The medal is not only the highest honor for him personally, but also a recognition of Serbia's pursuit of sovereignty, independence and development, Vucic said.
