President says senior IS commander killed

Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu confirmed on Saturday that Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, second-in-command of the Islamic State globally, was eliminated in an overnight operation carried out by Nigeria and the United States. Tinubu described the operation as "a significant example of effective collaboration in the fight against terrorism" and dealing a heavy blow to the ranks of the IS. Earlier on Friday, US President Donald Trump said on Truth Social that the IS leader was killed by US and Nigerian forces.

8 injured as driver plows into pedestrians

A driver plowed into pedestrians in the northern Italian city of Modena on Saturday, injuring eight people — four of them critically — before trying to flee and being detained by police, authorities said. They said the man had a history of mental health issues. Authorities identified the driver as Salim El Koudri, 31, who is unemployed. He was detained and questioned by police as investigators tried to determine whether he acted deliberately.
