Jining, Shandong: Advancing green logistics with comprehensive truck charging solutions
In recent years, as the transportation industry undergoes a green transition, electric heavy-duty trucks have gradually become a mainstream choice for freight transport, thanks to their low operating costs and zero emissions. As a result, the demand for the construction of heavy-duty truck charging stations has surged. As a comprehensive transportation hub and major freight center in Southwestern Shandong province, Jining has witnessed the rapid expansion of heavy-duty truck charging infrastructure. By the end of April, State Grid Jining Power Supply Company had completed power connection services for 181 heavy-duty truck charging stations, with a total reported installed capacity of 416,700 kVA.
At the heavy-duty truck charging demonstration station in Taiping town, Zoucheng city, rows of silver-white charging piles stand neatly arranged. Multiple new energy heavy-duty trucks charge in an orderly manner while drivers take short breaks in the station's rest area. "With dual-gun liquid-cooled fast charging, a heavy-duty truck can be charged to 80 percent in about 40 minutes. During that time, we can eat and rest without delaying our journey," said Liu Jun, a heavy-duty truck driver.
This supercharging complex dedicated to heavy-duty trucks is located in the Zoucheng Chemical Industry Park. In the first phase of the project, 48 400-kW supercharging units and 96 charging guns have been completed, serving an average of around 300 new energy heavy-duty trucks each day.
To support local demand for green logistics development, State Grid Jining Power Supply Company has taken proactive measures and introduced 12 targeted initiatives covering five major areas: overall planning and layout, streamlined procedures, information sharing, operational innovation, and safety management. These measures are designed to strengthen service guarantees for the grid connection of high-power charging facilities, prevent resource waste and disorderly construction, and inject new momentum into the high-quality development of the city’s new energy vehicle industry.
In response to the concentrated demand for charging station installations, the company has adopted a "one project, one team" approach, opening green channels for power installation and capacity expansion for high-power charging facilities. It provides full-process services ranging from project planning and site surveys to acceptance inspection and power connection. Through a combination of forward planning, digital empowerment, and contract-based coordination mechanisms, the company has improved the efficiency of grid connection procedures, shortened approval and electricity access timelines, and helped charging stations begin operation more quickly.
To ensure the scientific planning and siting of heavy-duty truck charging stations, State Grid Jining Power Supply Company coordinates grid access capacity based on the load characteristics of high-power charging facilities and guides projects toward areas with sufficient grid capacity and lower line load rates. The company has also strengthened inspections of electricity safety at charging stations, assisted enterprises in examining the operating conditions of power supply equipment, and promptly guided customers in formulating measures to eliminate identified safety hazards. These measures are incorporated into a hidden-risk rectification supervision system to further reinforce the safe operation of heavy-duty truck charging stations.
From the seamless charging of a single new energy heavy-duty truck to the development of a citywide green freight network, all of this depends on the support of a strong power grid and reliable services. Moving forward, State Grid Jining Power Supply Company will continue to optimize its services, strengthen guarantees, innovate operational models, and effectively implement the 12 support measures for high-power charging facilities. These efforts will help address charging challenges for new energy heavy-duty trucks, support Jining in building a green and low-carbon transportation energy system, and contribute to the development of a comprehensive transportation hub in Southwestern Shandong while advancing China's "dual carbon" goals.
