Zhangjiakou launches its first freight train service to Central Asia

Zhangjiakou in Hebei province launched its first regular freight train service to Central Asia on Wednesday, forwarding the region's integration into the Belt and Road Initiative.

The train, loaded with 49 forty-foot containers of auto parts and industrial and consumer goods, departed from a rail hub in Xiahuayuan district and is expected to reach Almaty, Kazakhstan, in about 13 days via the Alataw Pass in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, according to Wang Dong, marketing manager of the Beijing railway logistics center.
