Since 2020, the partners have combined native Chinese plant resources with international breeding expertise. Evison helps shape the breeding program, provides commercial varieties from Britain, and helps select the best offspring. The Beijing team handles the cross-breeding itself and the search for useful wild plant samples.

The British expert said the cooperation offers a valuable chance to work with Chinese plants, which he described as having outstanding germplasm and genetic potential. He added that China holds a central place in the plant world, especially as the home of clematis.
