China warned on Tuesday against military moves that could heighten confrontation risks in the Asia-Pacific after reports said the US planned to build a new military fuel depot in the Davao region of the Philippines.

Speaking at a regular news briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said the world is facing mounting turbulence and transformation, and that unilateralism and military bullying have brought deep disasters to the world.

He said the overall situation of development and stability in the Asia-Pacific has not come easily and should not be undermined.

"If some regional countries disregard the consequences and bring in countries outside the region to back them up, they will only end up harming themselves," Guo said.

The spokesman urged the concerned countries to respect the shared aspiration of regional countries for peace, development and stability, and to do more things conducive to regional peace and stability rather than the opposite.
