Russian FM Lavrov to pay 2-day visit
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will pay a two-day visit to China starting Tuesday, Beijing said on Monday. During the visit, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Lavrov will exchange views and coordinate positions on the development of bilateral ties, cooperation across various fields, and global and regional issues of common concern, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said. In recent years, China and Russia have continuously deepened their permanent good, neighborly friendship, expanded all-round strategic coordination, and upheld mutually beneficial cooperation and win-win outcomes, Guo said.

Tropical Cyclone Maila kills 11
At least 11 people have died after Tropical Cyclone Maila hit the autonomous Bougainville region of Papua New Guinea. The National Broadcasting Corporation reported on Monday that 11 people were killed in Bougainville, located more than 950 kilometers northeast of Port Moresby in the Solomon Sea, amid widespread destruction caused by the cyclone. Tropical Cyclone Maila reached Category 5 strength in the Solomon Sea and caused major flooding and destruction across eastern Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
