Mercosur's last member formalizes deal with EU

Paraguay on Tuesday ratified a free trade agreement between the European Union and the Mercosur bloc, becoming the last member of the South American grouping to do so. The Chamber of Deputies voted unanimously to adopt the agreement, thereby finalizing the country's ratification of a treaty that establishes one of the world's largest free trade zones. "This is a historic agreement for Paraguay, for the region, and for the world," said Deputy Rodrigo Gamarra, president of the Mercosur Parliament.

COLOMBIA

27 killed in bombings along Ecuador border

At least 27 people were killed in bombings along the Colombia-Ecuador border, Colombian President Gustavo Petro said on Tuesday. "It has been confirmed that the bomb on Colombian territory belongs to the Ecuadorian army," Petro said on X, without giving specifics. Ecuador's President Daniel Noboa denied carrying out bombings in the Colombian territory. "President Petro, your statements are false; we are acting within our territory, not yours," he said.
