Guangdong city to host global underwear market
A smart cloud warehouse center and a global underwear market are set to open in Shantou, Guangdong province, this summer according to local authorities.
The underwear market, an important part of construction of Shantou International Textile City, is expected to become the largest market for underwear trade in the country, according to Wen Zhanbin, Communist Party secretary of Shantou.
"As the industrial core, after the first phase of the international textile city was delivered, over 1,000 upstream and downstream enterprises have settled in, all shops have opened, and factories have gradually commenced production," said Wen.
Wen was speaking at the opening ceremony of an international textile and garment exhibition in Shantou on Wednesday.
The 5th China Chaoshan International Textile and Garment Exhibition, which has more than 1,200 textile and apparel companies participating, also attracted buyers from all provinces and autonomous regions across the country and from over 40 countries and regions overseas. Advanced technologies and products ranging from yarns and fabrics to garment manufacturing were put on display at the event.
A smart cloud warehouse center is also scheduled to begin operations inside the textile city in June, aiming to establish a modern logistics hub that covers the entire country and has an international reach, according to Wen.
Shantou, in the eastern part of Guangdong, has become the largest production base for underwear and home wear in China, with a comprehensive industrial chain.
