China strongly condemned the attack on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon that injured three peacekeepers, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Monday.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the March 6 attack on UNIFIL, which left three peacekeepers from Ghana injured, his spokesperson said.

At a daily news briefing, Guo extended China's sympathies to the injured and stressed that any deliberate attack against UN peacekeeping personnel seriously violates international humanitarian law, UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and is absolutely unacceptable.

Such acts must stop immediately, Guo said.

China urges the parties concerned to take immediate measures to de-escalate tensions and ensure the safety of UN peacekeepers, he added.
