Spring cultural series at Shunyi Grand Theatre celebrates tradition
The spring cultural series at Shunyi Grand Theatre concluded on Wednesday, featuring a spring gala, a Lantern Festival variety show, and traditional opera performances. Together, these events promoted traditional culture and engaged participants of all ages across the district.
The series began on Feb 10, the traditional Little New Year, or Xiaonian in northern China, with a gala featuring performances by the China Coal Mine Art Troupe. The show was divided into three thematic sections and included a variety of acts such as singing, dancing, traditional juggling, opera, face-changing, and instrumental music. Storytellers representing intangible cultural heritage, overseas Chinese communities, and youth served as narrative links throughout the performance.
On Feb 28, the Lantern Festival variety show added to the festive atmosphere with nine performances, including comedic dialogues, storytelling, magic, and various forms of opera, all centered on themes of reunion and celebration.
From Feb 22 to March 4, a series of classic operas were staged on multiple evenings, attracting thousands of local residents. The final performance took place on March 4, marking the official conclusion of the series.
The spring cultural series not only enriched residents' festive experiences but also strengthened cultural identity by preserving traditional arts. Shunyi District will continue to promote high-quality cultural events to keep traditional festivals lively and ensure that local heritage remains vibrant.
