Army deployed after scores killed

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has deployed the army after militants killed at least 162 people. His office announced the response on Wednesday, blaming Boko Haram insurgents. The attack — the country's deadliest this year — targeted the villages of Woro and Nuku in the state of Kwara on Tuesday evening. Gunmen rode on motorcycles, wreaking havoc by shooting indiscriminately at residents and razing some houses. In Wednesday's statement, Tinubu said the campaign will "checkmate the barbaric terrorists and protect defenseless communities". No group has claimed responsibility and officials expect the death toll to rise.

Nuclear talks to be held in Oman

Nuclear talks between Iran and the United States will take place on Friday in Oman, Iranian officials said, as tensions between the countries remain high following Tehran's crackdown on nationwide protests last month. The announcement by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday came after hours of indications that the anticipated talks were faltering over changes in the format and content of the talks. "I'm grateful to our Omani brothers for making all necessary arrangements," Araghchi wrote on X on Wednesday evening.
