China welcomed a World Trade Organization panel ruling in its dispute with the United States over provisions of the US Inflation Reduction Act, with the Ministry of Commerce saying that the decision underscores the importance of upholding multilateral trade rules.

The WTO released the panel ruling in Geneva on Friday local time in the case brought by China against the US. The panel found that the US clean energy subsidy measures are inconsistent with WTO rules and called on the US to withdraw the subsidies concerned.

A ministry spokesperson said in a statement that China has consistently been a firm defender of WTO rules and a steadfast supporter of the international economic and trade order.

China hopes the US will respect the panel's findings and WTO rules, promptly correct its wrongful practices, take concrete actions to safeguard the international economic and trade order, and promote stable and orderly global trade, the statement said.
