China has committed $14 million to support Liberia's national development priorities, following the signing of a new cooperation agreement between the two countries on Friday.

The agreement signed in Liberia's capital Monrovia targets to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries and fund projects that improve livelihoods and create job opportunities for Liberians.

Speaking during the ceremony, Liberian Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti expressed gratitude for China's continued support to the West African nation.

"The funding stands as a compelling testament to China's unwavering commitment to Liberia's development aspirations," she said.

Nyanti noted past collaborations, including support for Liberia's medical teams, broadcasting system, and other government ministries, describing them as tangible results that have improved the country's development capacity.

She assured Chinese partners of the Liberian government's commitment to transparent, efficient and accountable utilization of the funds in accordance with the agreed framework.

"As we affix our signatures today, we are doing so in the true spirit of South-South cooperation. A spirit grounded in solidarity and in the aspirations for the development of our peoples," she said.

Chinese Ambassador to Liberia Yin Chengwu described the agreement as a milestone in bilateral cooperation.

"The signing of the agreement between China and Liberia signifies deepened cooperation and support for Liberia's development, reflecting a strong strategic partnership and mutual commitment to prosperity," he said.

The agreement provides Liberia with funding to implement jointly agreed projects aligned with the country's development agenda, aimed at advancing Liberia towards its Vision 2030 goals.

Ambassador Yin noted that the funding follows China's previous support for Liberia, including food assistance, infrastructure projects such as the Tubman Boulevard overpass bridges, and capacity-building programs.

"This agreement reflects China's high regard for our strategic partnership and our sincerity in advancing China-Liberia relations," the ambassador said.
