Eurostar train services resume after glitch

Eurostar said it has resumed all of its cross-Channel services on Wednesday but warned there could still be some delays and last-minute cancellations after a power supply failure suspended train trips for much of Tuesday. The disruption, caused by a fault in the system's overhead power supply, on Tuesday upended plans for thousands of passengers in London, Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam during one of the busiest travel weeks of the year. In a statement on its website on Wednesday morning, high-speed train operator Eurostar said: "Services resumed today following a power issue in the Channel Tunnel yesterday and some further issues with rail infrastructure overnight."

4 Chinese tourists injured as trains collide

Four Chinese tourists were injured after two trains collided on Tuesday in southern Peru, the Chinese embassy in Peru told Xinhua. The four have been taken to local hospitals for treatment, the embassy said. The crash occurred near Qoriwayrachina in the southern Cusco region, where two tourist trains collided, according to the police. A railway engineer was killed in the accident. Rail services on the line connecting Machu Picchu with the city of Cusco were suspended following the accident, authorities said. An evacuation train arrived later in the day, while the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Mali, Burkina Faso announce travel ban

Mali and Burkina Faso have said they are imposing a travel ban on US citizens‍ i‍n response to an equivalent measure announced by the US administration earlier this month. In separate statements issued by their foreign ministries late on Tuesday, the two West African countries said they were acting in the name of "reciprocity" after the White House announced on Dec 16 that US President Donald Trump was adding them and five other countries to a list of those subject to a full travel ban. The White House said the expanded ban, set to take effect on Thursday, applied to "countries with demonstrated, persistent, and severe deficiencies in screening, vetting, and information-sharing to protect the Nation from national security and public safety threats".Niger has not officially announced any countermeasures to the US travel ban, but the country's news agency, citing a diplomatic source, said last week that such measures had been decided.
