Key details of Project Aura, a new pair of smart glasses, were jointly unveiled by Google and Xreal, an AR startup based in Shanghai's Pudong New Area, at the Android Show in California on December 8, according to Xreal.

Project Aura, Google's latest Android XR eyewear, is a collaboration between Google and Xreal, highlighting the leading role of Chinese companies in AI hardware innovation.

"A truly powerful AI must establish a connection with the real world. Glasses are the natural carrier for the next generation of smart devices," Xu Chi, founder and CEO of Xreal, said.

It is worth noting that almost all the core hardware of Project Aura was developed by Chinese teams, indicating that Chinese manufacturing is becoming a key force in developing next-generation computing platforms.

With a complete supply chain rooted in the Yangtze River Delta region, Xreal has built Shanghai into its global research and development center and a future innovation hub for AI-powered devices.

Project Aura is expected to be officially launched in 2026, according to public information.
